untitled

Like this shot. Along similar lines to my photographic hero William Eggleston I find the shapes, composition and subtle colour variations are somehow pleasing on the eye.

It's funny I can't describe completely why I think it's successful but I can tell you it has nothing to do with the banality of the subject for me. There is something satisfying in capturing what you see.

First you have to see something. A discovery. Something that stops you in your tracks. Then without thinking too much it has to be caught. Aligned instinctively so that lines and curves follow a course across the image. Tones and colours communicate effectively and that shapes and sometimes patterns are formed.

Using the props in front of you to find a balance in the image.

It's only later you can look at it and really realise the hidden treasures. Like the reflections in the rear car window in this image that looks as if the sky is being peeled back. or if you look a little further the England flag emblazoned in the front drivers seat. Or the grill on the underside of the shop sign, the way it fans with the perspective and a spectrum of tone.

And then for some reason, the fence makes the image. Completes it. The veil or stage curtain, thinly directing your gaze to all the scenes constituent parts.

It doesn't always work out but I like this one.
